Gary Mills phoned me towards the end of June to advise that he was writing a book on his life in football and asked if I would contribute a forward to the section on Gateshead FC, to which I readily agreed.
The book is now complete and Gary has kindly sent me an advance copy. I can truly say that it’s an excellent read in which he makes clear just how much he loved his time at the Heed – in fact, he’s headed the chapter “Incredible Gateshead”.
As part of the book launch programme, Gary is conducting a series of “talk-ins” throughout the places his career has taken him and the local event will take place at the Holly Hill Sports and Social Club, Felling on the afternoon of Sunday, 31st October – 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
Gary is bringing a guest speaker and no doubt the Heed’s “Wembley team” will be well represented. Matthew Raisbeck will be acting as presenter for what will no doubt be an afternoon to remember.
The entry price of £25 includes a copy of Gary’s book “Young Millsy”, which no doubt he’ll be happy to sign. Food will also be provided.
Tickets can be purchased at the club’s online shop here, or on the concourse at this Saturday’s game against Brackley Town.
Tickets are limited to 100, of which more than half are already spoken for.
Let’s make it a Heed Army sell-out and show our appreciation to Gary for providing the club with its most successful period in the last sixty years.
See you on the 31st.
