Next up on the road for Gateshead is a 542-mile round trip to The Hive for the travelling Heed Army on Saturday.

Barnet are sitting comfortably at the top of the National League, 11 points clear of second placed York City. Unbeaten in the league since the October 22, 2024, The Bees are edging closer to a return to the EFL for the first time in eight years. Dean Brennan’s side have won their last eight games in the league, conceding only two goals in the process.

We’ve Met Before

In the most recent meeting between these two sides, Gateshead took all three points on Tyneside, in one of only five defeats for Barnet in the current campaign. Callum Whelan opened the scoring in the sixth minute, before Kain Adom’s 50th minute strike sealed all three points for The Heed, in a 2-0 victory.

Match Report: Jack McGraghan

Gateshead were dealt their sixth consecutive defeat in a 3-1 loss away to league leaders Barnet.

Myles Kenlock put the hosts ahead with 10 minutes gone, before Callum Stead made it two five minutes before the break.

Jovan Malcolm restored some hope with a 20-yard strike late on, only for Stead to strike again in the fifth minute of injury time to seal The Heed’s fate.

A mixture of new arrivals and familiar faces returning to fitness saw Carl Magnay make five changes to the starting 11, introducing Ethan Robson for the first time while Ryan Bartley, Robbie Tinkler, Kenton Richardson and Tyrelle Newton also returned.

Barnet’s early possession led to the opening goal in the 10th minute, with Kenlock emerging from a fifty-fifty duel with the ball before curling into the far corner to put the league leaders in front.

Tiernan Brooks was later on hand to parry clear Anthony Hartigan’s free kick to keep the score at one-nil, before Rhys Browne struck wide from the edge of the box.

Gateshead worked a clear-cut chance of their own with 35 minutes on the clock when Malcolm was sent one-on-one after beating the offside trap, but the forward prodded just wide of the post from inside the penalty area.

Stead capitalised to add a second for Barnet just before the break, beating his man on the edge of the box before firing low past Brooks to give the home side control at half time.

The second 45 saw new signing Brayden Johnson introduced for his Heed debut as Magnay’s side looked to gain ground on Barnet, who were limited to set-pieces and blocked efforts as they pushed for a third.

The next meaningful chance would see Malcolm pull a goal back for Gateshead, curling into the far corner from the edge of the box to offer a glimmer of hope with seven minutes to go.

That hope of a comeback saw Barnet grab a third on the counter with The Heed pushing everything forward in search of an equaliser however, as Stead found the far corner to wrap up victory for the home side.
