Match Preview: Gateshead Soul

Next up on the road for Gateshead is a 574-mile round trip to Grosvenor Vale, where we take on Wealdstone in the Enterprise National League.

Wealdstone come into this game having had their previous fixture against Scunthorpe United abandoned due to a player injury, however, Scunthorpe have since been awarded the victory, having been leading 2-1, when the game was abandoned in the 78th minute. Things have been going well for Wealdstone in the league this season, and they come into Saturday’s fixture sitting 10th in the National League table, with notable home wins against Southend United and FC Halifax Town.

We’ve Met Before

In the most recent meeting between these two sides, Gateshead put four past The Stones at Grosvenor Vale, in a 4-0 demolition of the home side. Two first-half Luke Hannant penalties put the Heed in cruise control, before victory was sealed in the second half with a Jovan Malcolm brace.

Grosvenor Vale has become something of a happy hunting ground for The Heed in recent years, with Gateshead having won their last three visits here. Gateshead have been victorious in all of their last five games against Wealdstone.

Travel & Ticketing Information

Grosvenor Vale is easily accessible from Central London and is only a short walk from two London Underground stations; Ruislip and Ruislip Manor.

Our trip to Wealdstone is one of the easiest to make this season if you’re travelling by rail. Our recommended route would be to catch an LNER or Lumo service from Newcastle to London Kings Cross, then change onto the London Underground, using the Metropolitan line to travel directly to Ruislip or Ruislip Manor from London Kings Cross.

If you’re travelling by car, leave the M25 at Junction 16 and take the M40 towards London. At the end of the M40 the road becomes the A40. Take the first exit on the A40, onto the B467 towards Ruislip. At the roundabout at the top of the slip road take the first exit towards Harefield/Ruislip. Continue along the B467, and at the end of the B467 you will reach a T-junction, take a left here onto the High Road. Follow the High Road passing West Ruislip Station on your right and at the roundabout, take the fourth exit into Wood Lane. Continue along Wood Lane crossing one small roundabout and at the next roundabout bear right onto West End Road. Then take the second left hand turn into Grosvenor Vale and the stadium is located at the bottom of this road.

Please note that parking on match days at Grosvenor Vale is limited to players, management and club officials only. There is limited street parking close to the stadium and supporters are asked to park courteously and not block or overhang driveways of residents.

Match Report: Gateshead FC

Gateshead claimed a point in the capital with Kain Adom scoring both goals in a 2-2 draw against Wealdstone.

Alun Armstrong made four changes to his side that were defeated at Woking last weekend, including Joe Grayson who returned from injury.

George Shelvey, Josh Home and Connor Pani were also named in the 11 – the latter returning from suspension.

It was a nightmare start for the visitors, with Wealdstone taking the lead after just three minutes.

Dom Hutchinson pressed Shelvey inside his six-yard box, and the goalkeeper’s kick rebounded straight off the home midfielder and into the net.

Gateshead’s first chance of the afternoon came through Adom, though the Wealdstone keeper made a neat save at his bottom corner.

Meanwhile, Wealdstone searched for a second with Enzio Boldewijn heading a corner over, while Hutchinson forced Shelvey into a save at point-blank range.

On the brink of half-time, Gateshead levelled as Curtis Edwards’ low cross was dispatched by Adom at the front post.

The Heed started the second half from where they left off, with Kyle Hurst and Harry Chapman both going close.

There was another big opportunity to take the lead when Hurst drove to the byline and pulled back for Adom, who fired over inside the box.

The goal eventually came on 79 minutes when Adom chased down a long ball, dribbled past the keeper and slotted into an empty net.

That lead only lasted nine minutes, as Wealdstone substitute Kretzschmar followed up a on a fantastic diving save from Shelvey to make it 2-2.

The Stones pressed for a winner, hitting the crossbar from a header, but ultimately the points were shared.
