Next up ‘On the Road’ for the Heed is a 594-mile round trip to South West London, as we face League One side AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup First Round on Saturday.

The Dons are currently 6th in the League One table, and come into Saturday’s game having lost 1-0 to lowly Burton Albion last time out, although Wimbledon were previously unbeaten in seven league and cup games.

We’ve Met Before

The most recent meeting between these two sides came in January 2011, with AFC Wimbledon taking all three points at the International Stadium. Goals from Christian Jolley and Danny Kedwell sealed a 2-0 win for The Dons.

Travel & Ticketing Information

The Cherry Red Records Stadium is located near Wimbledon Park Station, served by the District Line.

If you’re heading down by rail, there are no direct trains from Newcastle to London Kings Cross on Saturday, due to engineering works. Our recommended route would be to catch a Northern service to Carlisle, change onto an Avani West Coast service to London Euston, then a Victoria line Tube to Victoria, followed by a District Line Tube to Wimbledon Park.

Car parking at the Cherry Red Records Stadium is extremely limited and there is NO on-street parking due to controlled parking zones, however the stadium is very well connected by the London Underground network, and the use of public transport is encouraged.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of the fixture, and are available online here, priced at:

Match Report: Gateshead FC

There was cup magic on Saturday afternoon as Alun Armstrong’s side scored twice to defeat League One side Wimbledon.

Goals from Kain Adom and Fenton John either side of the interval sent the 249 travelling Heed supporters into chaos with a cup upset.

Armstrong made two changes for the Emirates FA Cup first round tie in the capital, with Adom and Max Melbourne returning to the starting 11.

The hosts, who sat sixth in League One, pressed early with Riley Harbottle firing wide before Alistair Smith’s effort was saved.

Gateshead showed their clinical edge on 21 minutes from a counter-attack, when Frank Nouble played Adom through.

The Heed attacker made no mistake in front of goal, slotting home to give the away side a 1-0 lead.

Tiernan Brooks and Melbourne made big contributions at the other end to ensure Armstrong’s side remained on top at the break.

And within six minutes of the restart, Gateshead scored a second.

This time, Adom was the creator as he drove into the box and struck low at the keeper before John followed in from close-range.

Gateshead managed the game well from there, with Wimbledon only being left with one key chance.

That was from Danilo Orsi heading a high effort at close-range, but Brooks made a fingertip save at full stretch to deny the Wimbledon striker.

And after seven minutes of additional time, Gateshead’s place in the second round was confirmed after an emphatic Emirates FA Cup upset.

Gateshead: Brooks, Johnson (Flint 84’), Bakare, Melbourne (Grayson 71’), Ferguson, Edwards, Home, John, Adom (Williams 88’), Chapman (Hurst 71’), Nouble (Pennant 88’)

Subs (not used): Leech, Telford, Butterfield, Bone

Goals: Adom (21’), John (51’)
