Former Gateshead defender Alex Nicholson has today announced his retirement from football due to injury.
‘Nicca’ became an integral member of Gateshead’s squad after arriving as Mike Williamson & Ian Watson’s first signing in June 2019, amassing 83 appearances for the club across all competitions and scoring three goals.
The defender’s consistent performances during the 2019/20 season earned him the Players’ Player of the Season award as Gateshead reached the Vanarama National League North play-off semi-final.
His 30 appearances during the 2021/22 season played a key role in the club’s National League North title-winning campaign – an achievement that forever etched Nicholson’s name into the club’s history.
