Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of Gateshead FC Academy defender Carter Milmore on a one-year professional contract.

The centre-back becomes a full-time member of Alun Armstrong’s squad after making his first-team debut in November 2024, coming on as a substitute in a 5-0 win away to Maidenhead United in the National League, before being included in the match day squad for a further three league fixtures.

The 19-year-old also made two appearances in the National League Cup for The Heed’s senior side during the 2024/25 season, alongside captaining the club’s under-19 side under Armstrong’s tutelage.

Gateshead FC Academy operates in partnership with Gateshead College to develop young players into the professional game, with Milmore joining fellow former Gateshead FC Academy players Connor Pani, Lucas Lowery and Oli Thompson in the club’s first team squad.

“I’m really happy to sign my first professional contract,” said Milmore.

“Alun [Armstrong] rang me a few days after he got the job, so it was good to get that call. I really enjoyed playing under him last year with the academy – I know what he’s about and he knows my attributes.

“It’s been enjoyable – a tough first week, but I’m settling in well with all of the lads. It’s so easy to come into a dressing room with a lot of experience and it’s only going to make me better playing with those sorts of players.

“[I want to] take every opportunity I get from the gaffer, just take it as it comes and see what happens.”

Tom Bradley, Assistant Principal at Gateshead College, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see Carter sign his first professional contract with Gateshead Football Club.

“He’s an incredibly talented individual, and this achievement reflects his commitment and hard work. Carter’s progression also highlights the strength of our academy partnership with the club. It’s clear that the coaching and development pathways we’ve built are equipping young players with the skills and mindset needed to reach the next level.”
