Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper George Shelvey.
The 23-year-old joins the club until the end of the 2024/25 season, having most recently appeared in the League of Ireland Premier Division for Dundalk in 2024, following a period on trial on Tyneside in recent months.
Shelvey is a product of Premier League side Nottingham Forest’s academy, with the stopper making five National League appearances during a loan spell at Wealdstone in the 2020/21 season whilst on the books at Forest.
“George has been with us for a little while now,” said Carl Magnay.
“He’s trained a lot and he understands the concepts, ideas and how we like to build out from the back, and we feel he has all of the qualities to be able to do that.
“Owen [Mason] is in that position, it’s his to lose at this moment in time, but it’s a positive – in the goalkeeping position we have real competition.”
