Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the appointment of Ian Skinner as U19 academy coach.

Skinner takes on the role vacated by Ben Clark, who stepped back to take on a full-time position as Gateshead FC Foundation’s community officer following the end of the 2021/22 season.

He will work alongside U19 Assistant Coach and first-team goalkeeper James Montgomery to develop young players in their final year within the Gateshead FC Academy setup.

Skinner has amassed a wealth of coaching experience in the professional game, beginning as an academy coach with Newcastle United from 2004 to 2006 where he worked with current Gateshead players Adam Campbell and Greg Olley.

He has worked with the Football Association in various roles since 2007 and currently manages Northern League Division One side Ashington, a position he has held since April 2019.

“I’m really looking forward to getting down and working with the squad,” said Skinner.

“I know quite of a few of the coaching staff already, both first team and the college, and I thought it was an ideal opportunity for my skill set.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work full-time in football for over 18 years now and working with players on the grass is my passion and where I like to be.”
