James Montgomery has departed Gateshead Football Club by mutual agreement.
The goalkeeper has signed for Spennymoor Town and will also join Newcastle United in a coaching capacity.
Montgomery made 73 appearances across his three spells at The Heed, having first joined the club in January 2017.
He returned to The International Stadium in 2020 and 2022, with his final game in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium last month.
“I’ve had nothing but good times at the club,” Montgomery stated.
“I feel like now is the right opportunity for myself to play regular football and also gain more experience in coaching.
“I want to thank the fans – they took me in from the very first day I signed and they’ll always have a special place in my heart.
“The players and staff have been tremendous with me and we’ve shared some very good times together.
“I was proud to call this place home and I wish everyone at the club the very best of luck going forward.”
Gateshead FC would like to thank James for his incredible service to the club and we wish him nothing but success in the future.
