Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of Jamie Bramwell on a one-year deal, with an optional extension available at the club’s discretion.
The Newcastle-born defender returns to Tyneside after spending the last four years within EFL League Two side Grimsby Town’s academy system, whom he joined after spending five years within Newcastle United’s academy setup.
Bramwell signed his first professional contract with Grimsby as an 18-year-old in April 2022, and made his debut one month later in an away draw to Eastleigh in the Vanarama National League, before making three appearances across League Two and the Bristol Street Motors Trophy last season.
The 20-year-old has since spent time on loan with Whitby Town and Gainsborough Trinity in non-league, appearing 22 times across two loan spells for the former during the 2022/23 season and four times for the latter during a one-month stint.
“I’m over the moon,” said Bramwell.
“I didn’t have things sorted for about a month so I’m happy to get it sorted now, and I can’t wait for the season.
“I knew Louis when I was at Newcastle, he was my coach, so as soon as I found out about Grimsby letting me go I contacted him. I came in for two sessions and it was really good, and the gaffer wanted me in!”
