Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm Kenton Richardson as the club’s new captain.
The defender will lead his side into the 2025/26 Enterprise National League season in August and becomes Gateshead’s first new captain since 2021, taking on the role permanently having previously acted as stand-in skipper to prior captain Greg Olley in recent seasons.
Richardson takes on the armband ahead of his fourth season with the club, racking up 94 appearances since his arrival in the summer of 2022 and cementing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet in the centre of defence in the process.
The 26-year-old has become synonymous with Gateshead’s identity over his three years on Tyneside, helping the club finish in a National League play-off place for the first time in 10 years in addition to lifting the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium in May 2024.

“I’m really proud to take on the responsibility,” said Richardson.
“From the minute I came through the door this club has felt like home for me – within that time I’ve built up great relationships with the people within the club. I love coming into work every day and I think I said that when I re-signed here, it’s a great environment to work in.
“We’ve been written off before a ball has even been kicked every season I’ve been here and we’ve proven people wrong, and we’ll continue to do so.
“I’m really looking forward to the season starting and being back around the boys has been great – as club captain now, I’d do anything for them.”
