Gateshead Ladies secured their second promotion in two seasons with a 5-0 win over Stockton Town Ladies on the final day.

The Heed’s second-placed finish in Durham FA Women’s League One will see them compete in the North East Women’s Regional Football League Division One for the 2022/23 season, which will be the side’s third campaign since their formation in 2020.

Simon Johnson’s side won 16, drew three and lost five from 24 league games to end the season on 51 points and earn the club’s second promotion of the season following the first-team’s Vanarama National League North title-winning campaign.

The ladies side also made history in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, entering the competition for the first time and reaching the third round qualifying with wins over opposition one division higher in Guisborough Town and Spennymoor Town.

Jade Anderson ended the season as The Heed’s top scorer with 33 goals across all competitions, while Olivia Black also passed the 20 goal mark to reach 22 for the season.

Captain Hannah Coatham and right-back Dionne Slade recorded the most appearances with 29 in all competitions, both earning their second promotion with the club having joined ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Congratulations on an incredible campaign, girls!
