Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of Gateshead FC Academy forward Lucas Lowery on a one-year professional contract.

The 18-year-old pens his first professional deal on Tyneside after graduating from Gateshead FC Academy – most recently appearing for the under-19 side during the 2024/25 season under now first-team manager Alun Armstrong.

Lowery made his first senior appearance for The Heed in the fourth round of the Isuzu FA Trophy in January 2024, coming on as 76th minute substitute in a home tie against Weston-super-Mare on Gateshead’s road to winning the competition at Wembley Stadium four months later.

The forward would score his first professional goal in December 2024, netting The Heed’s fourth in an 8-1 win at home to Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy third round having been brought on as a half time substitute, and would make one more substitute appearance last season in January’s National League Cup tie against Newcastle United U21.

Gateshead FC Academy is run in partnership with Gateshead College to develop young players into the professional game, with Lowery joining fellow former Gateshead FC Academy players Connor Pani and Oli Thompson in the club’s first team squad.

“I’m buzzing to finally be here full-time,” said Lowery.

“I’ve had little bits over the past couple of years but to be here full-time and show Alun [Armstrong] what I can do is good.

“I don’t think there’s anyone I’d want more to be the coach, he helped me quite a lot last year and gave me my confidence back. The first day I met him he told me straight that I needed to do more, and from there I just kicked on.

“I’m just looking forward to the games coming up and showing Alun what I can do.”
