Gateshead Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Carl Magnay.

The defender joins Mike Williamson’s squad for the remainder of the 2021/22 season having recently departed Spennymoor Town following two-and-a-half years at The Brewery Field.

The move sees the 32-year-old return to Gateshead International Stadium having originally joined in January 2012, making 77 appearances and scoring four goals for The Heed before joining Grimsby Town in July 2014.

Magnay was part of the squad that reached the Conference Premier play-off final in 2014 and was included in the starting 11 against Cambridge United at Wembley Stadium.

The defender spent one season with Grimsby Town after departing Gateshead International Stadium and went on to make over 100 appearances for Hartlepool United before joining Spennymoor Town in July 2019.

Magnay will wear shirt number 32 for the remainder of the campaign.

“He adds massive quality and experience,” said player-manager Mike Williamson.

“He’s a massive addition for us and one I think is going to give everyone a boost with someone of the calibre and experience he has coming in.

“We want to create as much competition for places as possible and it forces other players to be better.

“We’ll never go away from our identity of being high intensity and high energy and Mags brings that, he’s a consummate professional and he fits in nicely in that respect.

“He is someone that can bring a lot of experience in the second half of the season.”

Shirt sponsorship is available for Carl Magnay for the remainder of the season. Email james.rushmore@gateshead-fc.com to enquire.
