Next up ‘On the Road’ for the Heed is a trip to Aldershot, following Tuesday night’s narrow 1-0 defeat away at Rochdale. It’s a 620-mile round trip to The EBB Stadium for the travelling Heed Army on Saturday.

Aldershot’s form in the league has improved drastically since the turn of the year, with Tommy Widdrington’s side tasting defeat only twice since the start of January. In their most recent fixture, The Shots had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw at home to Dagenham & Redbridge. Aldershot comfortably dispatched Sittingbourne 3-0 last weekend, securing their place in the FA Trophy Semi-Finals. Despite their good run of form, Aldershot come into this game in 18th place, two points above the drop zone.

We’ve Met Before

In the most recent meeting between these two sides, the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw on Tyneside. Josh Barrett opened the scoring for The Shots with just 10 minutes on the clock, before goals from the now-departed Owen Oseni and Callum Whelan put the Heed in control at half-time, although that joy was short lived when Jack Barham steered the ball home from close range, securing a point for Aldershot.

Travel & Ticketing Information

The EBB Stadium is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Aldershot Railway Station, and is centrally located within Aldershot i

The nearest National Rail station is Aldershot (served by South Western Railway), with direct trains to and from London Waterloo.

You cannot catch a train direct from Newcastle Central to Aldershot, so our recommended route would be to catch a train from Newcastle to London Kings Cross (LNER only, due to engineering works), then hop on a tube to London Waterloo (Victoria Line to Oxford Circus, then Bakerloo Line to Waterloo), and catch a South Western Railway service to Aldershot.

If you’re travelling by car, exit the M3 at junction 4. Follow signs towards Aldershot on the A331 and take the exit signposted A323 Aldershot and Woking. At the roundabout, take the third exit towards Aldershot, go straight on through the two sets of traffic lights and across two mini-roundabouts towards the town. The EBB Stadium is on your right, just past the railway bridge.

There are no parking facilities at the ground, you can park in the multi-storey car park on Wellington Avenue in Aldershot Town Centre, this is roughly a five minute walk from the ground.

Tickets can be purchased online here, with Gateshead fans housed in a small corner of the South Stand.

If you prefer to purchase your ticket on the day, the Club Shop is open from 12:00PM on matchdays for cash or card purchases.

Match Report: Jack McGraghan

Gateshead were defeated on the road for the second time in five days as Aldershot Town ran out 3-1 winners at The EBB Stadium.

The Heed had taken the lead within three minutes when Jack Roles fired home from 20 yards, only for Josh Barrett to level up two minutes later for Aldershot.

The home side scored two second half goals – either side of a red card for defender Ryan Bartley – to leave Gateshead to travel back to Tyneside empty-handed.

Carl Magnay re-introduced Regan Booty to the side after he missed Tuesday’s defeat at Rochdale, while also bringing Max Sheaf in the starting 11 for The Heed’s fourth away game inside five National League fixtures.

The visitors got off to the perfect start with just three minutes on the clock to take the lead at the EBB Stadium through Roles, who was set up by Liam Humbles before turning and firing into the left-hand corner to open the scoring.

That lead would last mere minutes though, with Barrett equalising for the hosts when a long ball dropped into his path on the left flank, before he cut onto his right and curled into the far corner past Tiernan Brooks.

The best chance would come Gateshead’s way in what remained of the first half, with Dan Jones first forcing goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst to tip his header wide from Booty’s corner, before Humbles had a one-on-one denied by the Shots’ stopper.

Magnay’s side carried that pressure into the early moments of the second period, and Dewhurst was again called upon to block Jovan Malcolm’s effort after Gateshead robbed Aldershot of possession in their own half.

It would be the home side who took the lead on 59 minutes however, capitalising on a quick free kick after Bartley had brought down Theo Widdrington to tee up Ryan Jones, who slotted into the far corner for Aldershot’s second.

The afternoon would become even more arduous when Bartley was shown a straight red card in the 74th minute, reducing Gateshead to 10 men after he was judged to have gone in over-zealously on Tyler Frost.

Barham converted a third in the final 10 minutes to seal Gateshead’s fate, leaving them fourth in the National League by one point at full time.
