Next up ‘On the Road’ for the Heed is a trip to Lincolnshire, where we take on Boston United at The Jakemans Community Stadium (7:45pm kick off) in a 370-mile round trip.

Boston United come into this game 15th in the National League, five points clear of the relegation zone. The Pilgrims have won back to back games in the National League, beating Sutton United 1-0 on Saturday, a victory which was preceded by a 2-1 win away at nine-man Boreham Wood.

We’ve Met Before

In the most recent meeting between these two sides, Boston came away from The International Stadium with all three points, back in October 2025. Harry Chapman put The Heed in front on 20 minutes, Kyle Hurst’s initial low drive was parried by Boston ‘keeper Rhys Lovett, but Chapman was there to thump home the rebound.

The Pilgrims equalised four minutes into first half stoppage time, Frankie Maguire, who had only been introduced two minutes previous, swept home inside the 18-yard box. Boston came out strongly in the second half, and Kieran Donnelly put the away side in front approaching the hour mark with a superb finish from close range. Jordi Hiwula sealed a 3-1 win for The Pilgrims in the 74th minute, steering home at the far post.

Gateshead FC
Match Report: Gateshead FC

After a three-week hiatus, Gateshead returned to action with a 1-0 defeat at Boston United in midweek.

An early goal from Tom Cursons was the difference on a wet Tuesday night in Lincolnshire, despite a battling second half performance from the Heed.

Rob Elliot named Pete Jameson in between the sticks for his debut, while Ben Radcliffe was also called into the 11 having returned to the Heed on loan.

Boston took an early lead on five minutes when Cursons glanced a header past Jameson from Matty Carson’s wide free-kick.

Rob Elliot’s side looked to get on level terms in the 11th minute when Aidan Elliott-Wheeler crossed into Mark Beck, who forced a low save from the keeper.

Midway through the first half, Billy Chadwick fired narrowly over the Boston goal, while Jameson denied Oisin Gallagher’s 25-yard strike at the other end.

Boston continued to threaten with Gallagher and Cursons being denied by Jameson and the woodwork as the first half concluded.

There were shouts for a Gateshead penalty on the hour mark when Chadwick was taken down by Connor Teale, but the referee waved play on.

And despite five changes from the visitors, and another late penalty shout when Jameson was dragged down from a corner, Gateshead left Lincolnshire empty handed.

Gateshead: Jameson, Elliott-Wheeler (Bowen 76’), Radcliffe (Richardson 88’), Ferguson, Nicholson, Chadwick, Butterfield (Chapman 86’), Newton (Telford 86’), Ward, Beck, Amantchi (Moore 76’)

Subs (not used): John, Melbourne
