Liv Black scores the equaliser as Gateshead Ladies draw 1-1 against Darlington FC Women in their final pre-season match.
Gateshead Ladies had the first chance of the game in the 14th minute as Liv Black found her way through on goal with only Evie Whitaker, the Darlington goalkeeper to beat. Unfortunately she couldn’t find the back of the net on this occasion.
Gateshead went onto pressure the Darlington defence as Liv Black goes down in the penalty area after being fouled. Kirsty Pickering stepped up to take the penalty but she strikes the crossbar with some force. Gateshead try to slot the rebound home but Evie Whitaker claims the ball in the palm of her hands.
Darlington had a big chance to open the scoring just before the half-time whistle but they couldn’t hit the back of the net as they smashed the post and then smashed the crossbar from the rebound.
Half time came around quickly and both teams couldn’t find the back of the net in the first half.
Lily Smith was called into action early in the second half. Pulling off multiple, excellent saves as she kept her team in the game.
Darlington opened the scoring in the 66th minute as Sara Waites scores a header at the back post, unfortunate for Gateshead as they had been causing a real problem fro Darlington with only 11 players available for todays pre-season fixture.
After being one-nil down for 5 minutes, Liv Black was hungry for a goal. Chloe Sharp launched a free kick into the middle of the oppositions box for Liv Black to run onto the ball, chip it over the goalkeeper and head it straight into the back of the net. Gateshead were back in the game!
Liv Black had a massive chance in the 89th minute to allow Gateshead to take the advantage for the first time in the match. Black worked her way past the defence but slotted it just wide!
Gateshead finished level with Darlington in the end, with the game finishing 1-1.
