Gateshead saw off Dunston with a 5-2 win to gain a spot in the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup.
Mike Williamson’s side consisted of five first team names in the starting 11 with Rutledge leading the team into the first round of the Durham Challenge Cup.
Jordan Lamb almost opened the scoring for the home side when a powerful strike from outside the area was headed away Louis Storey.
In the 21st min Rutledge’s sublime first touch on the penalty spot set him up for a left foot strike into the bottom right corner.
Louis Storey showed what he can do at both ends of the field as his shot in the 28th minute narrowly missed the post.
Dale Pearson got the home side back into the game as he brought the ball down on the edge of the box slotted bottom right to square things up.
Pearson went through two minutes later but was denied by a fantastic save by Matty Cassap to keep the game all square going into the second half.
Rutledge came close in the 62nd minute when after some good footwork his shot was blocked
four minutes later Billy Chadwick came up with Gateshead’s second when he knocked the ball around the Dunston defender and slotted home to take the lead
Chadwick came up with the third only five minutes after his first after winning the ball off of a loose pass and putting the ball past the keeper at his near post.
Jude Swailes almost extended the lead further for Gateshead as the Dunston player played the ball almost into his own net but Graeme Pickering just managed to Keep the ball from crossing the line.
In the 89th min Rutledge put away his hat trick as the ball was cleared off the line and landed straight into his path with a finish into the roof of the net.
The closes stages of the game saw Dunston’s Jordan Lamb score a second for the Home side but it wasn’t enough to keep the Heed from moving onto the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup
