Welcome to our first ‘On the Road’ of the season, as the Heed prepare for the long trip to Hampshire to face Eastleigh in the National League. It’s a 645-mile round trip from Gateshead to the Silverlake Stadium, the home of The Spitfires.
Eastleigh began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Brackley Town last weekend, and manager Kelvin Davis will be looking for a much improved performance this time round. For the second consecutive season, The Spitfires finished the last campaign in 13th position.
We’ve Met Before
In the most recent meeting between these two sides, the Heed had to settle for a point in Hampshire, on-loan striker Tyrell Sellars-Fleming opened his Gateshead account in the 84th minute, before Eastleigh salvaged a point from the penalty spot in stoppage time. The Silverlake has been a happy hunting ground for The Heed in recent years, with a 5-2 and 6-0 win in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Travel & Ticketing Information
The Silverlake Stadium is in quite an isolated area, just outside Eastleigh itself, the stadium is near Southampton Airport.

Alun Armstrong secured his first three points as Gateshead manager with a 2-0 victory away to Eastleigh on matchday two.
The Heed scored twice in short succession through Dom Telford and Kain Adom, while George Shelvey claimed his first clean sheet of the season.
Eastleigh started with intent and nearly took the lead after seconds when Paul McCallum fired wide from the edge of the box.
McCallum came close again for the hosts on five minutes, but his header at the back post was met with a fingertip save by Shelvey.
Gateshead’s first opportunity came on the 14 minute mark, when Connor Pani fired wide, before the scoring was opened through Telford.
With 19 minutes on the clock, Gateshead’s number nine curled a beautiful effort into the top left corner from 25 yards for his first competitive goal in a Heed shirt.
There was no slowing down, as Adom and Telford were denied consecutively by Eastleigh keeper Nick Townsend.
And eventually, the persistence paid off when Telford and Harry Chapman linked up before Adom slotted home to make it 2-0 on 26 minutes.
Frank Nouble was denied with another great save by Townsend in the first half, with the score remaining at 2-0 at the interval.
Chances were at a premium in the second half, although Eastleigh’s pressure heightened as time went on.
They scored twice in the final 10 minutes, however both goals were chalked out for offside.
And, after five minutes of added time, the referee blew his whistle to confirm Gateshead’s first win of the season.
