We’ve Met Before

In the most recent meeting between these two sides, Eastleigh returned to Hampshire with all three points. The Spitfires took a two-goal lead within 23-minutes, with goals from Harvey Saunders and Aaron Blair, before Frank Nouble reduced the deficit just before half time. Fenton John’s red card thwarted The Heed’s revival hopes, with Paul McCallum striking in second half injury time to seal a 3-1 victory for Eastleigh.

Travel Information

The Silverlake Stadium is in quite an isolated area, just outside Eastleigh itself, the stadium is near Southampton Airport.

If you’re heading down by rail, the nearest station is Southampton Airport Parkway, served by Southwestern Railway (trains from London Waterloo), and CrossCountry (trains from Reading).

From Southampton Airport Parkway Station, it’s a 25-minute walk through the Lakeside Country Park to the stadium. There aren’t any direct buses from the Railway Station to the stadium, but there is a large taxi rank at the front of the station.

If you’re travelling by car, exit junction 13 and turn right into Leigh Road. Continue to crossroads and turn right at traffic lights into Passfield Avenue. Drive past Fleming Park sports centre on your right and continue to the end of Passfield Avenue. At the end of the road take the second exit and at the next roundabout take the first exit into Stoneham Lane. Continue down Stoneham Lane, taking the first exit on two roundabouts then on the third roundabout take the first exit, then take your next left and you will find the Silverlake Stadium 100 yards on the left-hand side.

Parking at the stadium is reserved for those who are in possession of a blue badge. If you are in receipt of a blue badge, you should contact Eastleigh FC in advance, so you can be added to the car park list.

Anyone wishing to park at the Silverlake Stadium can park in the Lower Hardmoor Car Park, which is in the field behind the South Stand of the stadium and is accessible via the road next to the motorway bridge entrance on Stoneham Lane. Parking spaces are available at £10 per space, by cash or card, and is on a first-come-first served basis.

Match Report: Jack McGraghan

Gateshead’s Enterprise National League season began with defeat on the opening day at Eastleigh.

Early goals in the first and second half put The Spitfires in control, with Ash Boatswain’s injury time goal only enough to add consolation to a frustrating match day one in Hampshire.

There were four competitive debuts in manager Lee Cattermole’s first game in the Heed dugout, with Tommy Lavery, Jack Robinson, Rocco Coyle and Kyle Ferguson all handed starting berths at the Silverlake Stadium.

Robinson’s maiden appearance began with a yellow card 11 minutes in, moments before Eastleigh went ahead as Harry Sidwell drifted into the box unmarked and headed past Adam Desbois unchallenged.

Gateshead responded well to going behind however, and had two chances to draw level within the next five minutes.

Harry Chapman’s ball to the back post was scrambled away by Nick Townsend first, before the Eastleigh goalkeeper rushed out to thwart Billy Chadwick one-on-one after he had been teed up by Chapman on the counter.

Chapman would send a 20-yarder curling over the far post later in the half, before Townsend kept Kyle Ferguson at bay by acrobatically tipping his deflected shot over the crossbar just before the half time whistle.

Eastleigh punished Gateshead’s profligacy six minutes after the restart though, with Josh Lundstram free on the edge of the box to slot Nick Akoto’s low pull-back in for two-nil.

There was little to speak of in the way of chances on goal until injury time, though Tyrelle Newton perhaps should have won a penalty when he was on the receiving end of a high challenge from Temi Eweka inside the box.

Boatswain slid in to convert Josh Anifowose’s cross at the near post to get his season up and running with a goal, and give Gateshead late hope, but it would prove only to halve the deficit come full time.
