In the most recent meeting between these two sides, Forest Green returned home with all three points following a 2-0 win on Tyneside.
An early Liam Sercombe goal gave Forest Green a one-goal advantage going into the break, before Christian Doidge sealed the win late into second half injury time.

Gateshead strengthened their position in the Vanarama National League play-off places with a 3-2 win at semi-final certainties Forest Green Rovers.
The Heed took a three-goal lead through Jovan Malcolm’s first half double, followed up by Liam Humbles’ first Gateshead goal just after the hour mark, to seemingly wrap up three points before a nervy finish.
George Shelvey was forced to head Regan Booty’s mis-struck back pass into his own net, before an injury time goal from Christian Doidge somehow hauled Forest Green back into contention, though it proved too late to steal any points.
Carl Magnay opted to bring Joe Grayson back into the starting 11 in place of Robbie Tinkler in the sole change from last weekend’s win over Dagenham & Redbridge, and his side continued their momentum with just 44 seconds on the clock at The New Lawn.
Luke Hannant slipped Malcolm into the corner of the box before the forward fired towards the near post from a tight angle, sending his shot ricocheting into the back of the net off goalkeeper Ted Cann’s planted foot to hand Gateshead the lead.
The Heed would have to withstand a period out of possession after taking the lead, and had Shelvey to thank for preserving their one-goal buffer when he made two world class saves in the opening 45.
The stopper was first called upon to tip Kyle McAllister’s one-on-one effort around the post seven minutes in, before keeping Ryan Inniss’ header out with a flying save to his right in the 32nd minute to frustrate the home side.
Malcolm struck again to capitalise when he rounded off a flowing move created from the back, ending with the forward slotting into an empty net after Tyrelle Newton’s strike was parried into his path by Cann at the back post.
Gateshead controlled things after the restart to keep Forest Green at bay, and added a third with 62 minutes gone when Humbles drove from the centre circle to the edge of the box to fire a low strike into Cann’s bottom-right corner.
The Heed’s grip on the game only loosened via a huge slice of misfortune three minutes from time, when a bobble sent Regan Booty’s 30-yard backpass over Shelvey and into his own net via the latter’s headed attempt to divert over his crossbar.
The hosts then grabbed a second four minutes into the seven added on to somehow go within touching distance of stealing a point, as Doidge converted a deep cross at the back post to make it 3-2 with mere minutes to go.
Gateshead would hold out for those final few minutes however, dealing Forest Green their first home league defeat of the season and moving fifth in the National League table, six points inside the play-off places.
