Gateshead Ladies 8 – 1 Chester-le-Street United Women

Gateshead ladies came out on top in their first league game of the 23/24 campaign, beating Chester-le-Street United Women.

Our first goal came in the sixth minute. Crid Murray whips a corner right into the middle of the penalty area and Jess Douglas heads home to put Gateshead in the lead.

Chester-le-Street fought back straight away after conceding the first. They ended up getting one back as number eight slotted it into the back of the net in the 13th minute.

Due to it being a very hot day, both teams agreed to two drink breaks during the game, allowing Carl and Hugo to talk to the ladies and find a way to get their lead back.

Crid Murray gave Gateshead the lead for the second time in the match around the thirty-fifth minute mark after winning the ball from a Chester-le-Street goal kick, then beating the defender to the ball and slotting it past the goalkeeper.

Crid Murray went on to score her second goal of the game just before the half time whistle. Hannah Coatham launched the ball over the top of the defence from the half way line, allowing Crid Murray to run onto the ball and head it straight over the goalkeeper, into the back of the net.

Half time came around and the girls were ahead by two goals but there was still lots of work to do and the ladies didn’t stop there.

In the 51st minute, Crid Murray got her hat-trick. Charlotte Hoganson receives the ball from Jade Halliday and plays a ball over the top of the defence for Crid Murray. Crid Murray smashes it through the goalkeepers hands and into the back of the net.

Our number five, Charlotte Hoganson makes it five in the 71st minute. Jess Douglas brought the ball down, allowing Charlotte Hoganson to smash it home! Then she went onto score another two minutes after!

After changes in the 72nd minute, we seen Mollie Smith and Kirsty Pickering enter the field of play. In the 85th minute, super sub Mollie Smith gets on the end of a corner and puts it into the back of the net to make it seven!

Jess Douglas sealed the victory in the 86th minute as she scored the eighth goal for Gateshead, striking the ball straight into the bottom left corner.
