Gateshead Ladies 1-5 Norton & Stockton Ancients LFC Reserves

Gateshead Ladies FC fell to a 5-1 defeat against Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies FC in a spirited performance that saw the Tynesiders deliver a determined defensive display.

The opening exchanges were evenly contested, with Gateshead defending resolutely against Norton’s probing attacks. Norton broke the deadlock in the 7th minute, but Gateshead remained composed. 

Katie Scammell came close to equalizing in the 36th minute with a stunning free kick from range, which forced a fine save from the Norton goalkeeper. 

Gateshead Ladies defended valiantly for the entire first half, not looking likely to concede at any stage following the opener.

Gateshead’s perseverance paid off early in the second half when, in the 53rd minute, Katie Scammell’s precise free kick across the box was converted by Faye Kileen with a calm finish – a much deserved equaliser.

However, Norton’s response was swift, regaining their lead just four minutes later and extending it further in the 60th minute.

Despite Gateshead’s strong efforts to stay in the contest, a Norton penalty in the 78th minute and a late strike in the 89th sealed Norton’s victory. 

The scoreline flattered the visitors, and Gateshead’s commitment and fight throughout the match deserved much more.
