Gateshead FC Ladies returned to winning ways today with an impressive 3-7 victory over Leam Rangers.
A hat-trick from new signing Jess Richardson, plus a brace from Jasmin Badillo helped Gateshead secure the win.
The Tynesiders created all of the early openings, testing the Rangers keeper, but also seeing efforts go wide.
With 22 minutes gone, it was Rangers who took the lead, against the run of play.
The visitors soon levelled, however. A wonderful strike from Montserrat Lomeli from outside the area beat the Rangers keeper to make the score 1-1.
Katie Lemmon then missed a golden opportunity to turn the match on it’s head as the half drew to a close, and the sides went into the break level.
Ten minutes into the second half Gateshead were ahead. Fantastic link up play between Jasmin Badillo and Jess Richardson, allowed Richardson to fire home.
Badillo was on fire, adding two more goals in quick succession. A fine performance from the American.
Rangers did manage to pull a goal back on 64 minutes, but it was still all Gateshead.
Things became nervy when Rangers added another, to make the score 3-4, with just over ten minutes left.
The Heed following needn’t have worried though, as Garthwaite headed home from a corner to restore the two goal advantage on 85 minutes.
In the closing minutes, Richardson capped a brilliant performance of her own with two goals from close range to seal her hat-trick and a Gateshead win.
