Gateshead host Altrincham in a battle of early season play-off contenders on Saturday, October 7 (3pm kick off).
The Heed returned to winning ways in midweek, with Connor McBride’s double seeing off Wealdstone to earn three points and take his side back to fourth in the Vanarama National League table.
Mike Williamson’s side have scored the joint-highest amount of goals (34) in the division after 14 games alongside league leaders Chesterfield, and boast the best goal difference (+17) as things stand.
Marcus Dinanga remains the league’s top scorer with 12 goals despite being joined on double figures by Harry Cardwell, Nicke Kabamba and Paul McCallum, and faces his former side at Gateshead International Stadium this afternoon.
Altrincham recorded their fourth consecutive win on Tuesday evening, defeating Aldershot Town 2-1 on home soil to hold their grip on sixth place in the league standings.
The Robins have lost just once on the road so far this season – a 3-0 defeat at second-placed Barnet – and are the only side to have defeated Chesterfield during the current campaign.
Chris Conn-Clarke remains as much of a threat as ever for Alty, and netted his seventh goal of the season in midweek.
Heed View
“They’ve got really good individuals,” said player-manager, Mike Williamson.
“Their front three or four have a really good goalscoring record, the team in general score a lot of goals, and it’s going to be hard.”
Opposition View
“Expectations are a good thing, I’ve no problem with that,” said Alty boss Parkinson following Tuesday’s win over Aldershot Town.
“Even when we were part-time, people kept telling me we should be in the play-offs, so it’s nothing new.
“There is a togetherness in the group that is the cornerstone of everything we do here, and when everyone is on the same page, it does lead to success.”
