Gateshead suffered their 13th consecutive league defeat on Saturday afternoon as Brackley Town claimed a 2-1 victory on Tyneside.
The Saints scored twice in the opening 30 minutes and, despite a late surge from Gateshead, hung onto all three points.
Rob Elliott named three changes to his side that were defeated at Boston on Tuesday night. Kenton Richardson, Sam Bowen and Dom Telford were all called into the starting 11, while Joe Grayson returned to the bench.
There were early chances for Brackley as Kian Harratt fired wide and Scott Pollock forced Pete Jameson into a low save.
Zak Brown scored the opener on 17 minutes, with a cross catching Jameson off-guard providing an easy finish at the back post.
A second was added on 28 minutes, when Harratt turned home Michael Nottingham’s cross at the front post.
Gateshead’s best opportunity of pulling a goal back in the first half came through Richardson, with the defender forcing a fingertip save from a close-range header.
Mark Beck was called into action on 58 minutes, and he found the net 20 minutes later from a header to restore hope for the Heed.
Gateshead pressed for an equaliser, with Harry Chapman seeing a strike headed off the line in injury time.
After seven added minutes, the referee blew the full time whistle ending a 2-1 defeat to Gateshead.
