Sutton United make the trip to Tyneside as The Heed look to maintain their unbeaten run.

After a midweek draw at Southend and a vital away win at Solihull Moors last weekend, Gateshead return to the GIS looking to show the Heed Army the form that has seen them enter another unbeaten run.

The U’s will be buoyant after gaining two wins in their last three matches but The Heed will be up for the fight as they look to close the gap to the London team who sit in 17th.

Another crucial match awaits Rob Elliot’s side and as always the Heed Army’s support will make an impact ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.

Heed View

“We’ve got the opportunity where we can close the gap even more,” said Rob Elliot.

“We just have to stick to the things we’ve done in the last few games, the way we’ve played, the structure and the mentality that we’ve had. And if we do, we give ourselves the best opportunity.

“It’s going to be another tough test tomorrow, Sutton are in really good form. They’ve got a lot of pace in the front line so lots for us to deal with but we’ll rely on what we can do and back ourselves to affect the game.

“I’ve been really pleased with how the lads have conducted themselves, they’ve been a real pleasure to be around, they’ve turned a corner for us, stopped the rot and backed themselves to go into big games and get results. We need to back it up on Saturday.”

Team News

Zak Gilsenan is back in contention after a slight injury kept him on the bench at Southend United. Mark Beck will have a time frame of two to three weeks before being back in contention, and Tyrelle Newton has a similar time frame after returning to training this week.

Gateshead had to settle for a point after Sutton’s second-half leveller cancelled out a magic Chapman goal

Gateshead lined up with an unchanged starting eleven and squad as they returned to the GIS after a successful spell away from home.

Sutton came to Tyneside with an impressive record of scoring two goals in their last four away games as The Heed looked to stretch their unbeaten run in front of the home fans.

After two early chances for Sutton, Gateshead grew into the game. Their first opportunity came from a Kenton Richardson slotting a through ball to Billy Chadwick, who whipped a cross in to the back post. Ash Boatswain was close to getting the finishing touch but couldn’t quite guide it into the net.

Sutton’s Jayden Harris worked a shooting opportunity in the right of the area and looked to curl one into the far corner. Adam Desbois made a great diving save to keep the score level.

Sam Bowen did well on the right on the 23rd minute, whipping a cross in the box that was dealt with by Sutton and put out for a corner. The ball was cut back to Harry Chapman, whose shot was deflected wide.

Gateshead’s breakthrough came on the half-hour mark. Keaton Ward played in Chapman on the left of the area. The winger broke into the box and cut it back onto his right foot, finishing into the far corner.

The next chance came from Sutton, Osman Foyo broke into the box after a run down the left flank, tracked all the way by Kenton Richardson. The Gateshead captain put enough pressure on, and the ball rolled back to Desbois safely.

Gateshead had one last attack before half-time. Ward set Chapman away on the left wing again, and the winger played a cross in for Bowen, whose header was deflected for a corner.

After two minutes of added time, The Heed went in 1-0 to the good.

Neither team made any halftime changes and Gateshead returned to the pitch first, ready for the second half.

Chapman had the best chance early in the second half, breaking down the left wing again and cutting inside before being crowded out.

Gateshead made two changes on 64 minutes, with goalscorer Chapman coming off for Zak Gilsenan, and Sam Bowen coming off for Josh Anifowose.

Just after the substitutes, Ward had a shot from the edge of the area that was fired narrowly over the bar.

Ash Boastwain had the ball in the back of the net in the 73rd minute after a second half dominated by Gateshead pressure. However the flag went up for offside. Just after, Levi Amantchi replaced Billy Chadwick.

In the 84th minute, Sutton substitute Dubem Eze gave the visitors the leveller with a great strike from twenty yards out, which nestled into the far corner.

Boastwain had another effort off a Ward free kick, his header from six yards out rattled the crossbar before he left the field, replaced by Ethan Moore. Fenton John left the field at the same time, replaced by Ethan Moore.

The score finished level, Gateshead were in control for the majority of the second half, but Eze’s leveller killed any momentum The Heed gained.
