Gateshead host their second home fixture of the National League season on Saturday, August 23 (3pm kick off) as Tamworth make the journey to Gateshead International Stadium.
Gateshead return to Tyneside for the first time since the opening day of the 2025/26 season this weekend on the back of a midweek defeat at Rochdale, and face a Tamworth side who are looking to get more points on the board after a promising upturn in form.
Andrew Peaks’ side had been on the wrong end of results in their opening two Enterprise National League fixtures, but secured a 2-0 win against Truro on Tuesday night to record their first victory of the season. With two goals at The Lamb in their midweek game, The Lambs will hope for more as they make the journey north for their second game of the week.
With good performances on Tuesday, Tamworth’s squad will be looking to build on their first win, with plenty of players in the squad looking to capitalise on the momentum. Peaks’ side will be full of energy as they look to make it back-to-back wins.
Heed View
“We’ve got to do what we did down at Eastleigh,” said manager, Alun Armstrong.
“If you look at the top teams that we’ve played – Rochdale and Southend – they were really direct with their running and their runs in behind. We’ve got to do exactly the same and that’s what we’ve got to learn from.
“We’ve got to make sure that we match [Tamworth]. Physically, we’ve got to deal with the long throws, the corners, the set plays, and hopefully the football will come out on top.”
Team News
Jacob Butterfield, Tyrelle Newton, and Callum Johnson are set to miss the Tamworth fixture through injury, though have now made their respective returns to full training.

Alun Armstrong collected his first win on home turf as Gateshead manager, with Will Flint’s double securing a 2-1 victory over Tamworth.
The on-loan Doncaster midfielder scored in both halves, with Tamworth unable to reply until the 90th minute.
Armstrong made a host of changes to the side that were defeated at Rochdale on Wednesday night, with Max Melbourne and Kyle Hurst making their first league starts.
The Heed started strong and created several chances through Kain Adom, though Jas Singh in the Tamworth goal was equal to them.
In the 24th minute, Gateshead continued the pressure with Josh Home striking wide after a deflection, while Connor Pani’s header hit the crossbar from Harry Chapman’s corner.
And moments later, the opener arrived through Flint.
Gateshead captain Kenton Richardson created the chance, with a looping cross from deep, before Flint showed great composure to head it home.
There were signs of worry for Gateshead, with Dom Telford being forced off early, before Joe Grayson was replaced at half-time.
And Tamworth almost capitalised in the second half, scoring from a deep cross, though the flag was up for offside.
Gateshead’s advantage was doubled on the 69 minute mark, however, with a second from Flint.
It was Chapman who created the danger, forcing Singh into a low save from 20 yards, and Flint was there to follow up to make it 2-0.
Despite numerous crosses into the home penalty area, Tamworth struggled to carve anything clear-cut until the final minutes.
Harvey Sayer pulled one back in added time, but Gateshead stayed strong and saw out the 2-1 win.
