Gateshead returned to Vanarama National League form with a commanding 4-0 win over Woking at Gateshead International Stadium. 

Luke Hannant scored two from a trio of penalties across both halves, alongside goals from Tyrelle Newton and Owen Oseni, to hand The Heed three points and ensure they remained fourth in the league table.

Gateshead started with their foot on the gas on home soil, with two chances arriving early on as Oseni headed Joe Grayson’s cross over the bar, before Newton curled wide from 25 yards.

Hannant was afforded the first of three chances to score from the penalty spot on six minutes after Jean Belehouan was dragged down in the box, with the midfielder duly stepping up to put Gateshead in front.

Newton made it two just 10 minutes later when he was sent clean through by Ben Worman’s first time flick through the middle, with the former slotting into the bottom left corner to assert his side’s control.

Newton could have had a third but for a last ditch block midway through the half, but Hannant made it three from the spot half an hour in, this time being fouled on the edge of the six-yard box himself before sending his spot-kick into the bottom right corner.

Owen Mason was called into action for the first time with 35 minutes on the clock, holding Cian Harries effort from the edge of the box, but it was Gateshead who dealt the next blow three minutes into the second half.

A number of yellow shirts failed to clear their lines on the edge of the box, with Whelan wrapping a first time ball to the feet of Oseni, who clipped over the on-rushing Will Jaaskelainen to score his ninth league goal.

Whelan and substitute Jovan Malcolm both sent efforts wide in The Heed’s search for a fifth as Woking went into survival mode, before Hannant sent his third penalty over the bar after Newton was clumsily brought down with one minute to go.

The final whistle signalled an end to a successful afternoon shortly afterwards, seeing Gateshead take three points and remain fourth in the National League table.
