Gateshead enter the last 16 of the Isuzu FA Trophy when they travel to Hereford on Saturday, February 10 (3pm kick off).
The Heed are one of six Vanarama National League sides remaining at this stage of the competition, with all of those to face lower league opposition in the fifth round.
Gateshead’s tie at Hereford takes them back to Edgar Street for the first time since January 2022, when goals from Jack Hunter and Cedwyn Scott secured a 2-0 win on the way to the National League North title.
The Bulls are on a play-off charge of their own this season and currently sit eighth in the National League North, with only goal difference separating them and Curzon Ashton in seventh.
Paul Caddis’ men have lost just four from their 16 league games at Edgar Street this season, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of South Shields, who ran out 3-0 winners with former Gateshead forward Paul Blackett on the scoresheet.
The tie will see two recent FA Trophy runners up lock horns, with Gateshead narrowly losing out in the 2023 final while Hereford were defeated by Hornchurch in 2021.
Heed View
“We want to be successful and get through,” said defender and interim assistant manager, Louis Storey.
“There’ll be no change in mindset from us, if anything there’ll be a few boys who might get an opportunity starting which hasn’t been the case in the last couple of games.
“There’s players that are going to be putting a good show on to fight for league spots when it comes to team selection.”

Tom Allan, Regan Booty, Lewis Knight, Robbie Tinkler and Greg Olley remain unavailable through injury, while Kain Adom is cup tied.

Marcus Dinanga’s 19th goal of the season ensured Gateshead reached the Isuzu FA Trophy quarter-final for the second consecutive season.
The forward made his mark three minutes after coming on as a substitute, lofting over Curtis Pond to score what would be the game’s only goal.
The Heed made five changes to the side that drew with Eastleigh in midweek, with Ben Worman, Will Constantin, Jack Stott, Lirak Hasani and Dajaune Brown all introduced to the XI at Edgar Street.
Gateshead asserted control from the first whistle, dominating possession though Hereford’s deep defensive line made clear chances an uncommon occurrence.
Brown came inches away from netting on his first start only to narrowly miss Luke Hannant’s low cross, before Worman and Stott both sent efforts wide of the mark.
The best chance of the half came Hasani’s way with 27 minutes gone when Hannant found him free in the box with a lofted ball, only for Pond to react quickly and parry the midfielder’s first-time effort wide.
Connor McBride was denied by the post six minutes later, with the Scotsman’s 20-yard effort crashing back off the woodwork after he had cut in from the left flank.
Hereford’s one effort came just before the interval through Jason Cowley, whose shot from inside the box was blocked by Louis Storey.
The second period continued in a similar vein to the first, though Gateshead were dealt an injury blow when Joe Grayson was forced off after a high challenge from Lassana Mendes, which was punished with a yellow card.
The decisive moment arrived mere minutes after Dinanga’s introduction from the bench, with the forward latching onto Ed Francis’ deflected ball over the top to lob over Pond and into the far corner.
Hereford grew into proceedings after going a goal down however, and could have levelled twice inside injury time.
Cowley was first to fire goalwards, sending a looping header against the crossbar from Aurio Teixeira’s corner, but it was goalkeeper Pond who had the biggest chance at the death.
Moments after he had sent a deflected header wide from a previous corner, the Hereford shot stopper connected with the successive set piece but sent wide from point blank range, with the help of another white shirt only taking the ball out of play.
His miss ensured Gateshead kept a clean sheet however, and held out to reach the last eight of the Isuzu FA Trophy for the second consecutive season.
