Match Report: Jack McGraghan

Gateshead earned a point from their longest away journey of the season with a goalless draw at Yeovil Town.

Both sides struck the woodwork, with Sean McGurk doing so for Yeovil early on before Luke Hannant did the same in the final five minutes, though in the end the deadlock couldn’t be broken at Huish Park.

Carl Magnay made three changes to the starting 11 following Tuesday’s defeat at Halifax, introducing Louis Flower and Max Sheaf for their full debuts while Kenton Richardson made his first league start since August.

The hosts caused an early scare when McGurk struck the far post from inside the box, with his effort the most notable chance in a largely quiet opening 45.

Sheaf’s full debut was unfortunately short-lived, as he was withdrawn through injury and replaced by Charlie Colkett on 12 minutes, with that perhaps the only real talking point from a Gateshead perspective.

Yeovil did strike the woodwork again one minute before half time, though Cousin-Dawson’s header was flagged offside regardless from Charlie Cooper’s corner kick, before Jake Wannell’s cross into the six-yard box was narrowly missed by Matt Worthington.

The second 45 saw Gateshead gain control of proceedings however, with chances arriving just after the hour mark when Jean Belehouan sent a 20-yard effort just past the post before Liam Humbles curled over the bar from the edge of the box.

Owen Mason was called upon to preserve his clean sheet when he parried Worthington’s effort at his near post, before Hannant came closest to opening the scoring for Gateshead when his 20-yard curler crashed against the inside of the far post.

A flying save from Ollie Wright denied Will McGowan’s goal-bound strike from just outside the box moments later, with that proving the final meaningful act on goal as both sides took a point from a Friday night in Somerset.
