Gateshead came out on top against South Shields in their final pre-season friendly winning 3-1 after being down 1-0 at half time.

Here is what Mike Williamson had to say about his teams victory:

“I’m very pleased with tonights performance and I thought the lads were fantastic. I thought we played a lot better today than we did against Harrogate and talking about the goal we conceded in the first half, mistakes happen and we accept that. Before the game, we asked the boys to play with courage and bravery, ultimately we smothered them today and we didn’t give them an inch. I think we could have had more goals in the end.”

“At half time, we spoke about the positives of the first half, a couple things defensively to sort out and we didn’t let that first goal get to us as a team. We had chances all good and we held a lot of possession during the whole game, but we still had to find a way to get past them. In the end we did find a way through, and I’m glad.”

“Overall, the pre-season has been good, we are in a good place however we do need to assess a few things and areas. Shields were very good today, it was a tough test and in the end we came through. Really looking forward to the start of the season. Now we can only focus on our preparation and now we focus on our opening fixture, Boreham Wood.”
