Gateshead FC is delighted to announce the signing of James Montgomery until the end of the 2021/22 season.
The goalkeeper joins on a short-term deal at Gateshead International Stadium, re-joining the club for the third time after previously signing in 2017 and 2020.
Montgomery has made 52 appearances across three seasons at the club, most recently playing seven times during the 2020/21 campaign before joining Southend United and Chesterfield following the Vanarama National League North season being rendered null and void.
The 27-year-old made four appearances during his emergency loan stint with Southend, and most recently appeared in The Spireites’ National League play-off quarter-final defeat against Notts County.
Montgomery will wear the number 40 shirt and is available for inclusion in the squad for Saturday’s game at Boston United.
“I’ve been part of the staff since December doing the coaching with Chappy [Jacob Chapman] originally then Filip [Marschall] since he’s come in, but it’s lovely to be registered as a player again,” said Montgomery.
“Every time I’ve played here I’ve enjoyed being a part of this football club, so I’m delighted to be back.”
