Owen Mason has returned to Mansfield Town after being re-called from his loan spell at Gateshead.

The goalkeeper’s temporary stint on Tyneside comes to an end having made 15 appearances for the club, playing his part in six wins across all competitions after originally joining in November 2024.

“I felt for Owen at Wealdstone – we felt like we ought to prioritise where we were going to be weakened with the loan spots, and that meant one had to drop out of the squad,” said Carl Magnay.

“We had to make the harsh call, and with George [Shelvey] being a permanent player, we felt like he would deputise and add something for us.

“Mansfield, from their point of view, and rightly so, don’t want that situation to continue, and I think it ends the loan in a real positive place for Owen.

“He was fantastic for us, some of the saves he made when I recall them were incredible, and we feel like we improved him with his in-possession stuff as well.

“He had a little spell where, maybe from the outside looking in, his performances with the ball weren’t great, but I need to make very clear that there was a lot of change in and around him in personnel – it was really tough for him to adapt, and I think he did brilliantly to be honest.

“It’s been a really successful loan spell, and we wish him all the best.”

Thank you and all the best for the future, Owen!
