Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Pete Jameson as a player-coach.

The 32-year-old arrives at Gateshead International Stadium on a dual role ahead of the 2025/26 season, combining his registration as a member of The Heed’s first team squad with coaching duties which will see him work with the club’s senior stoppers as a goalkeeping coach having previously coached within Championship club Middlesbrough’s academy setup.

As a player, Jameson has made over 300 senior appearances including over 200 in the National League North, as well as appearing in the Football League with Harrogate Town from 2022 to 2024.

Jameson was most recently named as National League North side Darlington’s Players’ Player of the Season following the 2024/25 campaign, which saw him play 49 games across all competitions as Steve Watson’s side finished 11th in the sixth tier, and he will immediately re-join Darlington on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season with a re-call option available in January.

“I had a few good chats with Alun and I’m really excited about the role,” he said.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with lads [as a coach] and you see a different picture of the game when you become a coach. I’ve had a good chat with the goalkeepers and I’m really excited to work with them, they’re good lads.

“Everyone is at a different stage of their career at the moment, I’m here for them as well as wanting to have that healthy relationship of pushing them, but also maintaining that good relationship.”

Welcome to Gateshead, Pete!
