Ward first joined The Heed on a one-year deal in October 2020.
Ward spent the first half of the 2019/20 with local rivals Spennymoor Town after departing Middlesbrough in 2019, making 16 appearances before returning to full-time football with Irish Premier Division outfit St. Patrick’s Athletic.
The midfielder went on to make seven appearances for St Pats before the season was curtailed, and he joined Gateshead ahead of the 2020/21 season, going on to make nine appearances.
The 2021/22 season saw Ward become a key player in central midfield, making 35 appearances while scoring five goals and recording 10 assists on the way to lifting the National League North title.
The following season saw Ward play 52 times – the joint-highest alongside Adam Campbell – while scoring seven goals and recording eight assists to help Gateshead retain National League status and reach the FA Trophy final.
