McGowan joined on a three-year deal from Blyth Spartans in July 2024.
The midfielder made 45 appearances for the Spartans in the National League North during the 2023/24 season, scoring six goals in his second sixth-tier campaign after playing 31 times during the 2022/23 season.
The midfielder spent two years with North East neighbours South Shields prior to his move to Northumberland, making 45 appearances for The Mariners in his first taste of senior football after spending his youth years with Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers.
