
Seven players and supporters were recognised across Gateshead FC at our End of Season Awards.
The presentation evening, held at Gateshead International Stadium following a 4-0 win over Maidenhead United on the final day of the National League season, saw supporters congregate to celebrate the achievements of players from the club’s first team, academy and ladies sides.
Players’ Player of the Season – Ethan Pye
Voted for by his fellow players, Ethan Pye took home the coveted Players’ Player of the Season award having enjoyed a standout season in defence after arriving on loan from Stockport County.
The 20-year-old has made 45 appearances in all competitions and emerged as a regular fixture in the starting 11 after forging a place as a central defender following an early period at left back.
Pye was also named as the first team’s Player of the Month in January and March 2023, and scored his first Gateshead goal on the final day of the National League season.
Supporters’ Player of the Season – Kamil Conteh
Voted for by Gateshead Soul members, Kamil Conteh emerged as a strong fan favourite after arriving on loan from Middlesbrough in September, going on to make 41 appearances at the heart of Gateshead’s midfield.
The Sierra Leone international forged a strong connection with the Heed Army with his all-action performances on the pitch and vibrant personality off it, and was also named as the club’s Player of the Month in February 2023.
Golden Boot – Adam Campbell
Adam Campbell capped off his second season as a Gateshead player by taking home the Golden Boot after netting 15 goals and recording 12 assists in all competitions.
The forward played 51 times during the 22/23 season and was named as the club’s Player of the Month in August 2022 and April 2023, having netted important goals including in the FA Trophy semi-final win over Barnet.
Goal of the Season – Connor Pani (vs Yeovil Town)
Connor Pani earned the supporter-voted Goal of the Season award with his first senior goal for the club, after netting a 25-yarder in our 4-0 win over Yeovil at the beginning of April.
U19s Player of the Season – Ben Franklin
Franklin hit the ground running during his first season with the club’s academy setup under Ian Skinner, and also made the bench for the first team’s Isuzu FA Trophy quarter final win over Farsley Celtic.
Ladies Player of the Season – Crid Murray
Murray enjoyed a breakthrough season after arriving at Gateshead Ladies this season and has been on fine goalscoring form, netting 25 goals in just 14 games in the North East Regional Womens Football League.
The forward has two games remaining to add to her tally, with Carl Morrison’s side set to take on Thornaby and West Allotment Celtic before the season comes to a close.
Tommy Milburn Award (Club Man of the Year) – Andrew Gelder
Dedicated volunteer and supporter Andrew Gelder was handed the Tommy Milburn Award in recognition of his tireless efforts behind the scenes across a number of seasons.
Andrew has been seen assisting in the ticket office on open days prior to notable fixtures, and is a regular volunteer at home match days who was taken on the tasks of selling 50/50 tickets, allocating match programmes to sellers around the ground amongst a variety of other roles.
