Stephen Wearne has been named as the Vanarama National League’s November Player of the Month!
The forward enjoyed a fine goalscoring run during the penultimate month of 2023, netting five goals in five games and recording two assists as Gateshead embarked upon a four-game unbeaten run in the Vanarama National League, while also taking Wearne to 10 league goals for the season.
Wearne was also named by supporters as the club’s November Player of the Month, and becomes the second Gateshead player to receive the division’s monthly award this season following Marcus Dinanga’s recognition in September.
“Individually I wasn’t over the moon with my performances to be honest, but It’s obviously nice to get the output in terms of goals and assists,” said Wearne.
“I did go through a spell when I was focusing more on my numbers dropping, and after the Yeovil game I spoke with Rob and Louis and we decided I just needed to step back and play my game to let the goals come as a by-product of that.
“We got some good results against some of the best teams in the league, so we’re happy.
“We know how good we are and how good we can be, and Christmas is always a good point to see where teams are at.
“If we can get that consistency and put in good performances week in, week out, then hopefully we’ll be around it come the end of the season.”
