Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Will McGowan following a transfer agreement with Blyth Spartans.
The 21-year-old arrives at Gateshead International Stadium on a three-year deal, having spent the 2023/24 season with Blyth Spartans in the Vanarama National League North.
McGowan made 45 appearances for the Spartans in the sixth tier last season, scoring six goals in his second National League North campaign after playing 31 times during the 2022/23 season.
The midfielder spent two years with North East neighbours South Shields prior to his move to Northumberland, making 45 appearances for The Mariners in his first taste of senior football after spending his youth years with Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers.
“It was a move that I wanted this summer and I’m really happy it ended up happening,” said McGowan.
“The fact that they’ve done so much to bring me to the club confirms for me that they really want me here, which fills me with confidence going into the season.
“After being in that league [National League North] for the last year and a half, it’s the perfect time for me to challenge myself again and make that step up.
“I believe also with three years developing at this club and under this management, I’m only going to get better and better.”
