Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of defender David Ferguson on a one-year contract.
The left-back arrives at Gateshead International Stadium after departing fellow Enterprise National League side Hartlepool United following the end of the 2024/25 season, becoming Alun Armstrong’s first signing as Gateshead manager in the process, with registration to follow once the club’s FIFA ban is lifted.
The 31-year-old was a regular fixture in the starting 11 during his five seasons at Hartlepool, making well over 200 appearances for the club after joining in the summer of 2020, racking up a minimum of 44 appearances across all competitions each season.
Ferguson made 86 appearances in League Two for Pools after securing promotion via the National League play-off final in 2021 – making the fifth tier Team of the Season after helping his side reach the Football League – and has missed just two league games across the past two National League seasons.
“The last week it’s been in the pipeline, speaking with the manager,” said Ferguson.
“As soon as I spoke to Alun and said I was available, it was a no brainer to be honest.
“I’m pretty versatile and I’ve played a lot of games in recent years, so as long as I play I feel like I can play different roles. I do like to get forward though, I like to create and get to the byline and put crosses in.
“I’m quite happy it’s all sorted now, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Welcome to Gateshead, Fergie!
