Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Fenton John on a one-year deal, with an optional extension at the club’s discretion.
The 20-year-old arrives on Tyneside after spending his youth years within the academy system at Championship side Middlesbrough, whom he joined as an under-10.
John has been a regular fixture in Middlesbrough’s U18 and U21 sides in recent years, racking up 49 appearances for the former and 23 appearances for the latter across the last four seasons.
The creative midfielder spent the last of three loan spells with Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit Morpeth Town in the second half of the 2023/24 season, scoring seven goals in 17 league appearances.
“I’m excited!” said John.
“I came in near the back end of last season before Wembley and had a few sessions and Rob was happy to get me in, and I saw what they wanted to do and knew it’s something that would suit me.
“I’ve done well on quite a few spells at Morpeth, and I just thought that I’m capable of playing men’s football and a bigger challenge.”
