Gateshead were recognised for their Isuzu FA Trophy win at the annual North East Football Writers’ Association dinner at Ramside Hall.

The Heed became the first North East side to lift the FA Trophy since 2011 when they defeated Solihull Moors at Wembley Stadium in May 2024, also earning the club’s first-ever win in the competition in the process, having finished as runners up in 2023.

“It’s nice to be recognised,” manager Carl Magnay told Mark Carruthers.

“You know how there’s a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes at Gateshead so for that to be recognised by the North East and the reputable figures within it in is really nice.

“For us as a club to have something tangible in terms of silverware to represent the progression of the club is a really important acknowledgement for us.

“We’ve got to shout that from the rooftops – it’s an indication of the trajectory that we consider ourselves on as a club.

“It’s been five years in the making since Mike [Williamson] took over, then Rob [Elliot] and myself, and it’s about continuing that good work, and hopefully come the end of the season we have something else to acknowledge.

“The mantra of the club is to find a way, and I ram that down the players’ throats consistently, as we have done with previous managers and coaching staff.

“We would like a period where we have a bit of continuity and consistency, and we don’t have so many hurdles and obstacles in our way, but we’re prepared if that is the case.

“We’ve certainly had enough experience with it, and it only puts us in good stead and makes us stronger as a club.”
