GREG OLLEY SIGNS NEW DEAL!

We are extremely pleased to announce that Greg Olley has agreed a new deal at the Gateshead International Stadium after playing an important role in Gateshead’s first season back in the national league. The playmaker has signed a 2 year contract extension, extending his stay until 2025.

Greg Olley first signed for the club in the 2018/2019 season and went on to record a tally of 15 assists and 7 goals during the 2019/2020 season. Olley has been a fan favourite during his time at Gateshead, was named club captain back in June 2021 and has over a century of appearances at Gateshead FC.

“I’m pleased to extend my stay here, next season is going to be a really important season for the club and I’m really excited!”

“As captain, there’s no other better feeling to oversee this group of lads. I just want to help this club get the most out of the players we have and as captain I will try as best as I can” said Greg.

Greg led Gateshead to the National League North title in 2021/22, where he finished the season with 28 assists in all competitions and was named in the Team of the Season for the league.

Ian added, “Couldn’t be happier to get Greg on a new contract, off the field he is an unbelievable person, he’s what we look for in terms of characteristics!”

“He’s hardworking and nobody has a bad word to say about him. On the pitch, his work ethic is one of the best. His technical ability and his contribution to the game is outstanding so it’s been very important that we’ve got Greg a new contract.” said Ian.

In the 22/23 season, Olley made 48 appearances and was second highest goal scorer behind Adam Campbell with 8 goals. However, Olley finished with the highest number of assists in the squad with 18 overall, 6 more assists than second place Adam Campbell.

At the end of the season, Gateshead found themselves with a chance to win the FA Trophy final, Olley was the second ever captain to lead out Gateshead at Wembley.
