Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the appointment of Josh Lucas as the club’s Head of Analysis & Recruitment.
Lucas takes on the expanded role having held his previous position as Lead Performance Analyst since November 2023, and will now lead the club’s recruitment process and identify future first-team players alongside manager Rob Elliot and his coaching staff in addition to leading the club’s analysis department.
“Josh has been a key member of staff behind the scenes over the past two years,” said Elliot.
“The evolution of his role to now become the club’s Head of Analysis & Recruitment further develops our long-term plan and footballing structure, and he’ll work closely with myself and the rest of the coaching staff to bring the right players to Gateshead Football Club now, and in the future.”
Lucas said: “For me, it’s about helping Rob and the club to progress and move forward.
“Going forward, it’s ultimately one where Rob can now focus on the pitch a bit more and I can help out, take the reins a little bit and speak to everyone that needs speaking to.
“It’ll still be led by Rob in terms of who we want on paper, and it’ll be me speaking with clubs, agents and players in understanding what they can bring to us, and proactively plan where we are as a club to have a real picture on what we’re going to do over the next 12 months and onwards.
“When I first joined, players were pretty much always going into League Two if they were going into the EFL, and in the last year that pathway is stretching into League One and the Championship with Tiernan [Brooks].
“That pathway is developing and progressing, which is perfect for us, so we have to build on that and try and get that throughout the whole squad so that we can perform on the pitch and develop and continue moulding everything towards the future.”
Chairman, Bernard McWilliams, added: “Josh has played a pivotal role whilst he has been at the club with his keen eye on analytics, and he has been vital in supporting the club’s recruitment.
“Many of our player success stories are down to the excellent work he has put in, so this is a natural progression and further strengthens the club’s back room staff to assist in bringing success back onto the pitch.”
