Gateshead enter the Isuzu FA Trophy quarter final for the second consecutive season to face Peterborough Sports on Saturday, March 9 (3pm kick off).
The Heed were taken to penalties at this stage of last season’s competition by National League North side Farsley Celtic, before two saves from James Montgomery allowed Kamil Conteh to seal a semi-final place from the spot.
Rob Elliot’s side have made their way past Rochdale, Weston-super-Mare and Hereford to reach the final eight of the competition, and will face their third sixth tier opponent in the form of Peterborough Sports on Tyneside.
The Turbines have defeated two National League opponents to reach the quarter final for the first time in the club’s history, defeating Dagenham & Redbridge on penalties before a last-gasp goal from Michael Gash saw them defeat Kidderminster Harriers in the fifth round.
The visitors currently lie 15th in the National League North following a 4-1 midweek defeat to Hereford, though that was only their third loss of 2024.
Peterborough Sports boast the fourth-best away record in the North section of the sixth tier, winning seven and drawing five of their 19 away games so far, including a 2-1 win at Gateshead’s neighbours, South Shields.
Heed View
“Peterborough will feel this is a really good opportunity for them,” said Rob Elliot.
“We have to play to our principles, play our game and our football and allow that to come out on top.”
Opposition View
“It’s all about what happens on the day and if we find the same performance level we reached against Dagenham and Kidderminster, and play with the same energy and commitment we will have a chance,” said Peterborough Sports’ joint-manager, Michael Gash.
“We haven’t had the luxury of leaving players out to prepare for the tie, but Gateshead might mix their team up if they are prioritising the league.
“Like us they have a game next Tuesday and they might think they could beat us without some of their better players.”
“I wouldn’t find that disrespectful at all as everyone prioritises the league these days.”
Team News
Tom Allan has returned to full training is eligible for a potential return to the squad, though Greg Olley and Eddie Beach remain absent.
Kain Adom and Lewis Knight are cup tied and unavailable as a result.

Dajaune Brown’s first senior hat-trick fired Gateshead to a second Isuzu FA Trophy semi-final in as many years.
Brown opened the scoring with a composed first-time finish in the seventh minute.
Brown then produced a spectacular solo goal when he rounded two Peterborough Sports defenders before he slipped the ball into the far corner in the 19th minute.
The Derby County loanee completed a well-deserved hatrick when he tapped home Lirak Hasani’s cross in the 22nd minute.
Two quick concession goals in the 54th and 55th minute from Josh McCammon and Michael Gash slowed down the Heed faithfuls early celebrations – but it turned out not to be enough to complete a sensational comeback for the Turbines.
Rob Elliot made six changes to the team that was defeated on home soil to Solihull Moors on Tuesday night. Robbie Tinkler made his first start in a Gateshead shirt since October – while Hisani, Connor McBride, Jack Stott, Kieron Evans and Brown were the other five reintroduced to the starting XI.
Some intricate passing between Regan Booty and Evans eventually found Brown on the edge of the box who unleashed a powerful first-time finish to beat Peter Crook.
Brown controlled Evans’ inch-perfect through ball before the Heed talisman dribbled past two Peterborough defenders with ease before he showed his composure to finish the chance off with a goal.
Hasani powered down the right flank before his low-driven cross was bundled home by Brown to complete his hat-trick.
In the 30th minute, Kaine Felix’s daisy cutter cross found an unmarked Mark Jones in the six-yard box – but the striker fired the chance over the ball.
A looped ball into the box managed to find McCammon who put away the chance from a tight angle.
Gash soon after headed home the Turbines’ second when he got on the end of Matt Jarvis’ wide free-kick.
In the 69th minute, Tom Allan got the best of his man as he delivered a cross which Brown rattled the post with.
