Match Report: Will Brown

Gateshead were on the wrong side of a five-goal thriller as Solihull Moors took three points at Gateshead International Stadium.

Ben Worman’s emphatic first-time finish fired the Tynesiders in front in the third minute.

Tahvon Campbell soon levelled the scoring as his solo run from 30 yards allowed him to dribble into the box before producing a nonchalant finish to beat James Montgomery in the 22nd minute.

Jack Stevens clinical curled finish from just outside the box soon put the Moors in front nine minutes later.

Stevens doubled his scoring on the night from the penalty spot in the 56th minute following Tyrese Shade being brought down in the box by Kenton Richardson.

Marcus Dinanga prodded home Dajaune Brown’s knock down late on to give Gateshead hope, but it proved in vain as Solihull held out for three points.

Rob Elliot made one change to the team that settled for a point on Saturday to Boreham Wood after Brown’s last-minute equaliser. Worman was reintroduced into the starting XI in replace of Kieron Evans – while Joe Grayson returned to the squad after being named as one of the five substitutes.

Gateshead broke the deadlock with the Tynesider’s first chance of the match. Ed Francis played a splitting ball out wide to Kain Adom who managed to find Worman to smash the ball past Hayes from five yards.

Gateshead’s relentless pressure nearly found them a second in the 11th minute. A diagonal ball from Booty into the back post allowed Louis Storey to beat his man and direct an attempt over Hayes – but James Clarke crucially intervened by volleying the shot off the line.

Solihull soon punished the Heed for not converting their earlier chance. Storey’s pass was intercepted by Campbell who ran into Gateshead’s box before slotting the ball past Montgomery from a tight angle.

The Midlands-based club doubled the goalscoring tally on the night when Stevens unleashed a powerful effort into the bottom corner despite Montgomerry getting a hand on the ball.

Gateshead didn’t seem to have luck on their side as another attempt was once again cleared off the line. Kain Adom used his electric pace to beat his man before he played an inch-perfect cross onto Marcus Dinanga’s head – but the striker’s attempt was cleared by the Moors’ defence.

Shade’s quick feet resulted in the winger being brought down in the box and a penalty being conceded by Kenton Richardson. Stevens stepped up to send Montgomery the wrong way and to confirm his brace.

Callum Whelan’s threaded pass between two Solihull men allowed Brown to be played one-on-one with Hayes – but the Moors’ goalkeeper stood tall to make a solid save.

The Heed did spark a late revival when Brown’s goalbound header was helped over the line by Dinanga – despite appeals of offside against the latter – though Solihull stood firm in the final minutes to take three points.
