Owen Oseni’s injury-time winner against Solihull Moors saw Gateshead record their seventh National League win from eight at Gateshead International Stadium.
The Heed’s second half pressure looked to be in vain with time ticking past the 90th minute, before Regan Booty’s cross was headed home by Oseni two minutes into injury time to secure three points on Tyneside.
Carl Magnay made four changes to the side that won at Sutton United on Wednesday evening, with Robbie Tinkler, Brandon Haunstrup, Ben Worman and Owen Oseni all returning to the starting XI on home turf.
Worman connected with Luke Hannant for the game’s first chance inside one minute, with the former playing Hannant down the right flank before he sent a powerful strike towards goal which Laurie Walker was able to beat away.
Solihull had an opportunity of their own almost instantly when Conor Wilkinson was fortuitously played through by Dan Jones’ tackle, though Tiernan Brooks read his one-on-one to make a fine save to his right from close range.
Brooks was on hand again to deny former Heed defender Alex Whitmore’s header at the back post, while at the other end Hannant could only send Haunstrup’s deep cross onto the roof of the Solihull net.
An attritional first half gave way to heavy Gateshead pressure in the second 45, with Walker saving twice from Worman and Booty in the opening 10 minutes as the hosts gained control, before Oseni sent an acrobatic 20-yard effort just wide.
The best chance came The Heed’s way with 64 minutes on the clock when Walker spilled Jones’ cross to the feet of Worman, whose ball back across the box was put over the bar by substitute Tyrelle Newton from six yards out.
Olly Tipton sent a 20-yard effort wide for Solihull in their only chance of the half, while Gateshead’s continued pressure at the other end saw Walker spill Worman’s cross against his own post moments before producing a fingertip stop from Jacob Butterfield.
The game’s decisive moment arrived with mere minutes left on the clock, seeing a short corner tee up Booty to send a ball towards Oseni at the back post, who ousted Jamey Osborne to head into an empty net from point-blank range to give his side the lead.
The forward’s seventh of the season briefly preceded the final whistle, seeing Gateshead remain fourth in the National League and two points behind top spot.
