Club sponsors WhichBookie take a look at the updated odds in the Vanarama National League North.

We’re six games into the 2021/22 season in the National League North now is a good time to take another look at the Outright Winner odds and compare them to how they were at the beginning of the season.

Club sponsors WhichBookie provided a betting preview last month which stated that Gateshead were 20/1 to top the league this season with a handful of bookmakers.

After a positive start to their new campaign, which has seen them suffer just one defeat from their six matches, the odds on Gateshead to win the league have shortened to a reasonable 16/1 with bookies such as William Hill, BetVictor and Unibet.

Our side host Gloucester on Saturday who have picked up just four points so far and so odds could shorten further by this time next week, especially if league-leaders Fylde fail to take anything away from their tricky fixture against Spennymoor at the weekend.

A string of fixtures take place this weekend across all English football leagues and you’ll find daily football betting tips over at WhichBookie.co.uk.

As expected, Fylde are performing well and have only dropped points in their 1-1 draw away to Kettering earlier in the month. The Lancashire side are now the bookies favourites at odds of 2/1 but they seem much too short for us at this stage of the season to back with any confidence.

Brackley are another side doing well in the league and are tied on points with Fylde. However, all of their five victories this season have come by a one-goal margin and having averaged just over 1.1 goals per game so far, they’re not convincing enough to back for the title, despite being at more favourable odds of 9/1.

Curzon Ashton are perhaps the surprise team in the league this season in terms of performance. The Greater Manchester side were big outsiders in the pre-season being priced at 66/1 but after a positive start to their campaign, bookies have slashed their price to just 28/1.

Steve Cunningham’s side have picked up four wins and a draw from their opening six matches and have averaged an impressive two goals per game which has left them in third place in the league. They’ll see their upcoming fixtures against Bradford PA and Farsley as winnable and so their Outright Winner odds could shorten in the weeks to come if results go their way.

The biggest losers in terms of odds from the pre-season are Hereford who were priced at 20/1 along with Gateshead but after a rough start to the season, are now at a huge 100/1.

They do have a game in hand over many of the other sides in the league but the fact that they’ve only found the net twice in their opening five matches does give the impression that there is cause for concern at the club.

Looking ahead to this week’s fixtures and just one match takes place midweek between Alfreton Town and Leamington. Bookies have the hosts as the slight favourites being priced at 27/20 whereas Leamington are 15/8 to potentially move into fourth place.

Gateshead’s next match is on Saturday when they host Gloucester and although the odds are not yet available, we are expecting The Heed to be favourites given recent form and league positions.
