Roles joined on loan from Crawley Town in February 2025 in a deal keeping him on Tyneside until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The midfielder made 21 appearances across all competitions for The Red Devils prior to joining Gateshead, and also played 32 times in League Two for the club last season as they earned promotion to League One via the play-off final.
Roles went on to make 12 appearances during his temporary stint on Tyneside, scoring three goals before being re-called by Crawley in April.
